Many people set goals but are scared they won't be able to achieve them. Why is this always so? People are afraid mainly because they lack the discipline to focus on their goals for a sustained period. 

Also, some gave up their dreams because of an inadequate grasp of the nature of goals. Goals are mostly beyond our present abilities and available resources. Therefore, to achieve them, we need to move out of our comfort zone and commit ourselves to tough things. 

Generating self-discipline is highly demanding, and some cannot discipline themselves until an external factor compels them to do so. You don't need to write yourself off if you are among this category because you can tap into the power of an accountability partner.  Just like examination compels us to study whether it is convenient or not, knowing someone is monitoring your progress forces you to go an extra length to prove your worth. An accountable partner will get you on track when you are weak or discouraged when pursuing your goals.

Who should be your accountability partner?

Your accountability partner must be someone who has a higher drive for success and is ready to hold you accountable. Your accountability partner may be spouse, friend, co-worker or mentor. The person must genuinely want the best for you. Probably such person must have advised you at a certain point in the past. 

Don't get me wrong, the best person to hold you accountable is you, but if you are struggling to keep yourself on the right track, having other people in your life to call you out whenever you performing below your ability is helpful.

This year, find someone you can discuss your goals with and who can help you articulate your thought and guide you in achieving your dreams. Finally, at the end of the year, gift your accountability partner 10 or 20% of your proceeds.
